FSC's work in labor economics involves protecting the right of a worker to earn a livable wage in a safe environment free from threats to safety or health. FSC has performed work on private sector and public sector labor issues.

FSC provides expert technical testimony on behalf of public sector labor unions in wage negotiations and arbitration proceedings. FSC's testimony considers the fiscal impact of salary and benefit requests; the financial health of the government entity involved with the negotiation or arbitration; and the potential sources of revenue to support wage and benefit requests. Past work includes:
	Testimony and analysis in support of wage and benefit requests for various police and firefighter unions in communities throughout Iowa.
	Testimony in support of the wage and benefit requests for the United Professionals of Iowa, the state public employee labor union.

In addition to wage and salary negotiations, FSC provides technical analysis of proposals to privatize public sector services. This economic analysis examines the costs and benefits of privatization proposals.

FSC's work on private sector labor issues involves wages, as well as occupational safety and labor regulation, including:

	Support for prevailing wage laws in both Iowa and Oregon.
	Research on the right of volunteers to a safe work place under state laws.
	Research on the operational feasibility of a proposed OSHA standard to control the occupational control of tuberculosis in homeless shelters.
	Research on local government regulation of home-based business.
